She helps students become aware of the use of their body, the horse’s motion and how the two meld together, achieving a more relaxed and effortless harmony with their horses. It is her goal to help students learn that there is an easier way to realize their riding dreams. Lessons may be private or semi-private during clinic.

The private bodywork sessions with Tom Nagel are specifically designed to align and balance the rider's body. By softening the back muscles, opening the hip joints, and leveling the pelvis the rider will feel taller, lighter, and more centered. Tom is a certified Advanced Practitioner of Zen Bodytherapy® and has taught Zen Triggerpoint Anatomy® and Zen Bodytherapy® professional trainings in the United States and Europe.

Tom Nagel, author of the book Zen and Horseback Riding, is an internationally recognized instructor and clinician. He has conducted clinics and trainings, given lectures, and done presentations throughout the United States and in Europe since 2001.

Tom discovered through his own horseback riding experience, that how bodies work on the horse is the same as how they work off the horse. He has been able to teach riders how to identify and engage their psoas muscles, to become better riders.

Tom's experience and expertise is in the basic biomechanics of how human bodies work. He practiced Aikido for seventeen years and is an advanced practitioner of Zen Bodytherapy®, a bodywork discipline that combines deep tissue and alignment work. Tom started his Zen training in 1977 under the guidance of Zen Master Tenshin Tanouye Rotaishi and became a certified Zen teacher in 1986.

Karen Irland is a Level IV Centered Riding® instructor who has been riding, training, and showing horses for 45 years in Hunters, eventing and dressage. She had the good fortune to study with many classically trained teachers – Chuck Grant, Vi Hopkins, Robert Hutton, & Col. Lindgren among others. From them, she learned the important basics of training and riding horses in many disciplines. The how and why of the classical gymnastic training of horses was the common theme from all of her teachers.

Lifelong work with many natural horsemanship trainers has greatly enhanced Karen’s understanding of the horse’s nature and communication. This relates directly to riding in so many ways. Problem solving begins patiently, on the ground, and progresses to the saddle.
